If you know someone with depressive disorder, they may require your help! Though they will probably never request help, they may need it.

For somebody who has never suffered from depression it can be very difficult to understand. Lots of people still look at somebody with a depressive disorder as a whiner and often wonder 'what have they got to be depressed about'.

Whether a person actually seems to have something to be depressed about or not is completely irrelevant. For someone suffering from unremitting a depressive disorder, the illness is part of their lives even though they might not appear to have anything overly stressful going on in their life at the precise time.

This is really tough to identify with if you have not suffered from a depressive disorder. It may feel like this person is continuously down and you don't really want to be near them anymore. But, this is when they need you around the most.

For somebody suffering from a depressive disorder, they often lose interest in social activities and just want to stay home and 'mope'. This feeling is very tough to get over. When you have a chemical imbalance within your brain caused by chronic depression, it is especially hard to reverse that imbalance. Due to this imbalance there is a lot of negative energy within the body and the more harmful energy there is, the more powerful the harmful energy becomes.

It's like a vicious circle. Negativity breeds negativity. This is why whilst you are in a depression that deep it is extremely hard to get out of. You tend to think negative thoughts all day and find it very hard to get those thoughts out of your head.

So while a person with depressive disorder may not desire to be social, it is imperative to continue encouraging them to be social. Ask them out with you to a movie or dinner or just drop around for coffee.

Be there to listen to them if they need somebody to speak to. At the same time attempt to remain happy yourself to bestow that cheerful or optimistic vibe that may well just boost their spirits that little bit.

Encourage them to be positive and to try and think positively. Listen to what they need to say and then attempt to show them how to possibly look at that situation in a different way. Every circumstance can be regarded in different ways and the way you look at things can make a big difference to the outcome of how you feel about it.

People with depression constantly tend to look at things in the most negative way so if they can be shown a new way to look at a situation this can be a huge help in helping them feel more positive.

The worst thing you can do for a friend that suffers from depression is to walk away and leave them to it', to decide not to be their friend for the reason that they are often so negative.

Try to remember this is when they need you the most. By walking away, their depressive disorder may possibly become worse.

Remember - a friend in need is a friend indeed.

Being depressed is an awful way to live and if you know someone who you suspect has depression, don't hesitate to offer a helping hand. Visit http://www.depressiondays.com to find out more information about depression and it's symptoms and treatments.
